Júlia Pereira Lima (Lisbon, 1990) has a degree in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from the University of Lisbon (Faculty of Letters/Institute of Social Sciences) and is preparing a dissertation on transfeminisms in Portugal and Brazil. As a political activist, she was the first transgender person to lead a political party in Portugal and to stand in legislative elections. She was one of the first people to achieve legal recognition of her gender, through the Pathologizing Gender Identity Law of 2011, and has since been fighting for a gender self-determination law, which has been in force since 2018.
