Upcycled by Sergiu
Hello, my name is Sergiu, and I’m going to present two original projects that I’m currently developing. One is an upcycled sewing project, where I make hats and fanny packs using repurposed materials from tents, clothing, and other items that have reached the end of their life cycle. With this, I aim to offer people an alternative to new products and raise awareness about fast fashion. The other is my drawing and illustration project, where I express my creativity through various techniques, including drawing, painting, digital illustration, and tattooing. Sometimes they intersect, sometimes they don’t, like my different personalities.
Massapê
Casa Massapê is mestizo art!
Casa Massapê was born as a transdisciplinary artistic collective formed by artists from Abya Yala, Bruno Lorenzi, and Gabi Bruxa Mendieta, transforming into a cultural house where life, activism, and art are inseparable. The collective reclaims and redefines the word mestize to name an artistic manifestation that emerges from a collective awareness of body, environment (space/community), time, matter, and presence (spirit), reconstructing the perception of daily life through popular and ancestral knowledge, songs, and rhythms. We see and live art as a weapon of struggle and a tool of resistance, resilience, and survival.
Ecobags Uma Pausa Teatral
Uma Pausa Teatral is an independent initiative created in January 2021 by immigrant women. The group works with the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology, holding theatrical gatherings with games and exercises that dissect systems of oppression. Pausa aims to explore possible movements, both individual and collective, for our bodies—a long pause of dialogue between sound, body, and aesthetics. In the historical map of its activities: Portugal (Porto, Coimbra, and São João da Madeira), Spain (Granada), and Mexico (Puebla). As we move through different spaces, we feed on the (de)construction of collective thought around social transformation.
