Sandra Barrilaro, Bilbao 1960
Photographer, editor, and activist for the human rights of the Palestinian population.
Co-author of the book Against Erasure. A Photographic Memory of Palestine before the Nakba, 1889-1948, a work that compiles photographs of Palestine from those years, refuting the Zionist slogan “a land without people for a people without land.” The book was originally published in Spanish, with the English version being released at the beginning of 2024, titled Against Erasure. A Photographic Memory of Palestine before the Nakba.
As a result of her travels to Palestine, she produced a photo report titled Palestine, A Glimpse at Injustice, a collection of black-and-white photographs of Palestine taken between 2009 and 2011 in the West Bank and Gaza.
In 2016, she participated in the Women’s Boat to Gaza, part of the Freedom Flotilla, as one of the thirteen women on board the Zaytouna during its final leg from Messina to the shores of Gaza.
She is a member of Rumbo a Gaza, the Spanish campaign of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
She has authored several articles on Palestine and the children’s album Under the Stars (Kókinos, 2001).
